What to Expect and When
Building a fiber network is a complex process that involves planning, funding, permitting, construction, and final activation. Much like constructing a highway system, it takes time and coordination—often several years—to move from concept to live service. Even after construction is completed, additional steps like splicing, testing, and activating the network can delay service availability by several months.
Not all areas that see construction will receive service right away. Fiber networks typically begin with a high-capacity backbone (Middle Mile) that connects major hubs, sometimes bypassing smaller neighborhoods. If local coordination and future planning allow, later phases—called distribution (Last Mile)—can extend service into residential areas, requiring similar resources and timelines.
